Local Mixed Martial Arts Fighter Wows Hometown Crowd

On the night of Feb. 12, The Monroe/West Monroe area saw its fighters go 3-1 in mixed martial arts.
The main event local fighter, Quentin Henry, put on an impressive display for the hometown crowd.
"It was pretty cool being able to perform in front of everyone here in town," Henry said. "A lot of people know I fight and are interested in the sport, and I'm glad I was able to put on a good show for all of them."
In front of a crowd of a couple hundred local mixed martial arts fans, Henry was able to take his opponent to the mat in the first round and complete a rear naked choke for the submission.
This was Henry's first run in the 170 pound division. Usually a 185 pound fighter, he decided to cut down to where he felt he would be stronger.
His Evolution MMA teammate, Matt Crane, also had a successful showing. He was able to get a technical knockout in the first round.
"This was the easiest fight I've had so far," Crane said. "I was able to stay calm, and it paid off."
The other local fighter had a hard fought battle as he was beaten and bloodied at the end of the first round. He was able to come back in the second round and submit his tired opponent.
In a grappling match, Dustin Kristy was able to submit his opponent several times in the five minute time limit. Kristy is not allowed to compete in MMA because he is under age. Louisiana state law requires a fighter to be at least 18 to compete.
With the success of the local fighters, MMA is becoming one of the fastest growing sports in the area.
