For four former student-athletes of the University of Louisiana at Monroe, April 25, 2009, will be a special day that all of them will remember for the rest of their lives.

The ULM L Club, along with the ULM Athletic Foundation and ULM Alumni Association, inducted former football players Raymond Philyaw and John Clement, former track & field athlete Angela "Black" Moon, and former women's basketball pioneer Marlena Mossbarger to the ULM Athletic Hall of Fame.

Philyaw was one of the most prolific quarterbacks who ever stepped on the gridiron for ULM, with a list that includes Stan Humphries, Bubby Brister, Stephen Jyles, and Kinsmon Lancaster. The Shreveport native who played for ULM from 1993-1996 was a three-time all-Louisiana recipient from 1994-1996, along with throwing for 7061 passing yards and 52 touchdowns. However, it would be his game against the University of Nevada Wolf Pack that would put him in ULM lore. Philyaw led an air raid of an attack with 486 yards and five touchdowns in an 59-35 loss in Reno, Nev. on Oct. 14, 1995.

Philyaw is now a member of the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League, who has suspended operations for the 2009 season due the recession of these economic times. He led the Gladiators to the National Conference Championship Game where they would lose to the eventual champion Philadelphia Soul, 70-35, and also led the Chicago Rush to the ArenaBowl semifinals two other times. He also has the current record for the highest touchdown-to-interception ratio, with 8.59 touchdowns to every interception. While also in the AFL, he has been responsible for 501 touchdowns and nearly has 25,000 passing yards in his career.

"It means the world to me to be inducted into the ULM Hall of Fame," Philyaw said. "To be chosen beside some of the greatest athletes that have come through ULM is a blessing. To be able to get a full scholarship was an honor and to be a three-year starter was amazing. Even though we made the transition to Division I, I was lucky enough to see different universities and play against some of the best college athletes in the country. I had the chance to see where I stood against other athletes from major colleges. My time at ULM was the best four years of my life."
