Letter to the Editor from Dr. Denny Ryman

I would like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to Mr. Morgan and anyone in the community to tour our clinic facilities, to meet our faculty and students, and to learn how the university is educating the students while also serving the public. Much of what we do is privately funded by the generosity of donors, grants, and federal allocations. I would like to thank Rep. Alexander and others for their efforts in bringing money to the university. We take very seriously our responsibility to be good stewards of the public's trust and funding.
Our fellow citizens are facing hard times; they must constantly decide to buy food or get healthcare treatment. They must constantly decide to buy gas to commute to work or to drive many miles to a healthcare provider. It is my hope that one day soon, when you are driving around our rural parishes, perhaps West or East Carroll, you will see a state-of-the-art mobile dental unit operated by the University of Louisiana at Monroe parked at a local civic organization; please stop by the car and go see for yourself what we are doing and who we are serving. Think about how you can help the under-served citizens of our beautiful region.
