I am writing as an alumni and educator/coach. I was the team captain of the swim team for two years. President of the 31 Ambassadors for two years and a four year member of Delta Sigma Phi. I was very active on campus and very proud of my University.
Since I have graduated in 2000, I have been extremely disgusted by the actions of ULM. Especially the treatment of the Swimming and Diving team.
I am very lucky to have the opportunity to teach and coach in Texas. Looking in from the outside, I have come to realize the JOKE that ULM has become.
What a disappointment! I thought maybe the women's team stood a good chance of surviving. However, with no one there to fight for that program, what should we expect?
It is obvious that the program has been in danger of being cut since Pitt's passing. The timing and unprofessionalism shown in the hiring of a new coach showed us that!
Cutting that program was the easy way out! What about fighting for the student athletes and finding a solution? Pitt found solution after solution and made things work. They may not have been ideal but the program thrived.
Let me guess! Long time coach passes away + New coach figures out that the university is not supportive and leaves + University uses that opportunity to drop the program = Another dead end LOUISIANA University.
