Mr. Quinn:
Thank you for expressing your interest and concern with the affairs of the University of Louisiana at Monroe Student Government Association. We, as your elected representatives, understand how important and vital it is that we, as a governing body representing the ULM students' voice, be held accountable for our decisions.
In response to your concerns and questions, I would like to share with you some information that may clarify your understanding as to how we perform our duties and responsibilities.
Serving in the capacity of SGA and Student Body President does not dissolve here at ULM, or even the city of Monroe; moreover, the job is much broader.
Each elected SGA president from the state within the four systems of universities and colleges serves his or her constituents on an entity known as the Louisiana Council of Student Body Presidents. This Board represents over 200,000 students here in La.
In addition, this board meets at least once a month, mostly on Saturdays and Sundays.
The purpose of the state-law, mandated board is to first, promote communication among the collegiate and university communities of which each president is a part, and secondly, further the educational and social interests of each represented campus while maintaining an atmosphere that is supportive to the advancement of higher education.
In addition, Mr. Quinn, I also represent ULM on the Student Advisory Council to the University of Louisiana System's Board of Supervisors. In lieu of other responsibilities, the SGA Vice-President is responsible for representing ULM in my absence at these meetings and, she too, sits on other state committees.
I, along with SGA Vice President Heather Brandle and Assistant Dean of Students, Dr. Martha Upshaw, attended the 55th Presidential Inauguration along with fellow board members to Louisiana's COSBP. While in Washington, we met with our state's elected senators and representatives to discuss the current status of higher education in La., something which is a collectively prevalent issue facing America's youth and young adults.
In an effort to better our student body, we, the Student Government Association, allocated $6,000 from our budget to establish a Miss University of Louisiana at Monroe Foundation. The money will be used yearly to provide both finalists and non-finalists awards and scholarships. That is a direct way of helping our students.
Mr. Quinn, your elected student leaders have a great responsibility and we sincerely appreciate your trust in us to fulfill theses duties. In keeping with our organizational motto, Making a Difference, we are always available to assist you and our fellow students.

La Troy Cato
ULM SGA President
