The Campus Activities Board is bringing the Miss ULM Pageant back to ULM's campus.
The 52nd annual Miss ULM Pageant, "A Night on Broadway," will be held on Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in Brown Auditorium.
This year's pageant will finally be returned to campus after a four-year run at the Monroe Civic Center.
Duke Johnson, director of Student Life and Leadership, is pleased with the return.
"With recent renovations, it is an exciting time for students to become more connected to the pageant," Johnson said.
Kathleen Gillian, coordinator of Greek Life, has worked closely with this year's production and shares Johnson's opinion.
"By being on campus, we really get to utilize more of the students and faculty on campus," Gillian said. "VAPA, visual and performing arts, has been a big component and very helpful."
There will be eight contestants in this year's pageant: Francesca Clark, Eunice pharmacy, sophomore Chelsea King, West Monroe music education senior, Olivia Lawdins, Jennings kinesiology senior, Lori Leggit, Delhi pharmacy senior, Michelle Mayer, Monroe pharmacy junior, Cassie Olin, Monroe general studies sophomore, Jessica Smith, Monroe English education senior, Jessie Tyler and Oakdale interior design senior.
This year's prize package has also been upgraded. This year's pageant winner will receive more than $8,000 worth of prizes which include: fall and spring tuition scholarship, private on-campus apartment, $300 bookstore voucher, free meal plan and a $4,000 cash award.
These prizes don't come without a price. The queen's job description has also been revised. This year, Miss ULM will be expected to commit to a year of service and will be expected to serve as the official hostess of the university.
Miss ULM will also be responsible for sharing her personal platform with the university, as well as surrounding areas.
CAB will also be giving away several prizes on Wednesday, March 2 as the Lady Indians prepare to defeat Lamar. CAB will be giving away 1,500 spirit towels, a $500 organizational grant and individual prizes.
Director of Athletics Bobby Staub recently attended a CAB meeting and thanked the entire board for their support. He also congratulated the board for a job well done and asked CAB for ideas about next seasons home football games.
This week CAB will be sponsoring its weekly Friday night film at 7 p.m. at Monroe hall. This week's film will be Chronicles of Riddick starring Vin Diesel and Thandie Newton.
CAB will also be sponsoring its PJ's coffeehouse this Friday from 2-4 p.m. with musician Lanky.
"He has been known to have a John Mayer kind of sound," said Eric Whitten, coordinator of student activities.
According to thevinylsessions.com, "Blending rock and pop, Lanky has created a great album that dives into several lyrical choices while still maintaining the ideas that anyone can relate to what he is singing about."
