Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo is experiencing four nights of horror with the help of the Kappa Alpha Order and Monroe Jaycees, a local civic organization.
Responsible for the construction and operation of a haunted house on the zoo grounds, the University of Louisiana at Monroe KAs finished their first night of a creative house for charity, said Michael Gray, coordinator of the haunted house.
"It is going to be intense," Gray said. "We use to do this a while back as a fundraiser, and now we are just bringing in back for a even more effective cause."
With the additional help of the Monroe Jaycees, the money made from this season's event with precedes the Monroe Zoological Society and the annual Monroe Jaycees Christmas Shopping Tour for Underprivileged Children.
"The Zoological Society supports the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo by promoting their continuing conservation and educational efforts, said Rebecca Lopez, member of the society."
The society also provides additional funding for projects such as animal enrichment and enclosure construction renovation.
The Monroe Jaycees Christmas Shopping Tour for Underprivileged Children is an event where local underprivileged children are given the opportunity to shop for gifts at Wal-Mart.
Gray said that the shopping tours have created smiles for children for over 30 years.
"I think it means a lot when you can enjoy yourself and know that your money is going to change children lives this year," he said. "It is going to be a fun event for something that only gets to happen once a year."
Staffed with approximately 35 members, the haunted house aims to bring the madness to encounters.
"We have all of the effects, and it has the right look," Gray said. "There is some of everything in there. Expect the Mad Professor's Room, the Torched Room and a lot of darkness because people are not going to know what to expect; prepared to be scared."
This event is intended for mature individuals and may not be suitable for young children. Donations will be acceptable for the Louisiana Purchase Zoological Society and the Monroe Jaycee.
The Night of operations are Thursday, Oct. 28, Friday, Oct. 30 all beginning at 7p.m.
For More Information, call Michael Gray at 547-4580.
