At its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 27, the Student Government Association finalized arrangements for Wednesday's "It's Your Right" Voter Awareness Rally.
SGA president La Troy Cato spoke about the Nov. 20 ULM v. ULL game and the Council of Student Body Presidents (COSBP) meeting.
There will be a dinner for COSBP participants and a hospitality committee will be formed.
"This will be a great opportunity to showcase the university, especially to show our SGA," Cato said.
Sen. Shirya Bhushan announced the Diversity Committee will sponsor "Mix it Up" on Nov. 16.
The idea driving this event is to have participants eat lunch with someone they have never had lunch with before.
Department head Jessica Westbrook of Projects and Beautification is already planning Christmas decorations for this year.
"The big project we are working on right now is Christmas at ULM," Westbrook said.
ULM's Christmas celebrations will be held Dec. and there is much to accomplish before that time. Pamela Jackson needs help putting up the lights in the quad area Nov. 15-19. Student organizations should be getting their Christmas boards together to be put on display.
SGA advisor Mary Upshaw announced her ideas about adding to the decorations this year.
Upshaw wants to put a battery-operated candle in each window of the five historic buildings facing Desiard Street.
She also suggested adding reindeer and more lights to the winter wonderland scene.
Dissention closed the SGA meeting Tuesday night.
A motion in the emergency legislation caused heated discussion between senators and department heads.
The spokesman for the Student Booster Club, Adam Holland, asked for $1500 that would pay for a chartered bus to take students to the next football game in Denton, TX.
"This is the most important game the university has been involved in in a long time," Holland said. "We need to get out there and support the school and student athletes."
Senators were unclear about liability policies and whether the possibility of alcohol on the bus would be a problem.
The motion failed to pass.
