Anyone who grew up during the 1980s probably remembers the incessant banter from the "Religious Right" claiming that MTV was guilty of corrupting the minds of America's youth. Today, more than 20 years after the network's conception, complaints that were once baseless are now absolutely true.
"Choose or Lose," MTV's supposedly non-partisan initiative to increase voter turn-out among young adults, has recently engaged in a vicious campaign of deception, which is obviously aimed at ousting President Bush from office and undermines not only the intelligence of young Americans but also the integrity of the entire political process.
The program, which is backed by numerous celebrities such as music mogul Sean "Puffy" Combs and actress Drew Barrymore, initiates voter registration drives for young adults around the country using musical performances and celebrity appearances to bolster attendance.
This may appear to be a positive contribution, and would be if it stopped there. MTV, however, capitalizes on the opportunity by handing out free DVD's to the newly registered voters that slyly incorporate it liberal political agenda into what is supposed to be an informational film designed to explain the political process to the uninitiated.
This may not appear altogether repulsive. It is, however, only slightly indicative of the truly devious nature of "Choose or Lose's" most recent attempt at pulling the proverbial "wool" over its viewers' eyes.
Last month, MTV began airing an ad campaign that claimed that the draft may be an issue that is decided in next month's presidential election.
The initiative continued its assault yesterday by sending out thousands of e-mails to viewers, depicting fake draft notices and asserting that the next one could be real.
As President Bush is often viewed as a "wartime president," most viewers identify him with this alleged initiative, despite his emphatically categoric denial of the claims last week's presidential debate.
