The University of Louisiana at Monroe got revenge on the state of Arkansas with a 3-1 victory over the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, following their 2-1 loss to Arkansas State on Friday.
ULM got on the board first with 20:58 left in the first half, as senior Cindy Barker took a pass from Erin Sherry to score the game's first goal.
The Indians went into the second half with a 1-0 lead.
This was the first game of the season that the Lady Indians were able to take the lead first and it made a big difference.
Coach Stacy Lamb said of her team leading at halftime, "It gives you confidence, (it) gives you momentum moving into the second half."
And it did, as the ladies would go on to score two more goals in the second half and actually had another goal reversed following a penalty.
The first goal of the second half was courtesy of Megan Moore. She sailed a shot from 30 yards out just over the fingertips of the Lady Trojans goalie with just over 20 minutes left in the game.
Then, with 11:25 left in the game the Lady Trojans got themselves on the board for their only score of the game.
After the game, Coach Lamb said, "Today is just a preview of good things to come."
About her team playing so well she added, "They were excited and they knew a win today was very important going into our first conference game on Wednesday at Northwestern."
The Lady Indians hope to keep up the good things as they enter conference play this week.
This Friday, the Lady Indians return home for their first Southland Conference home game of the season against Nicholls State.
