The ULM Lady Indians lost Saturday's game against Sam Houston State University 3-0.
Despite Saturday's loss, the women's volleyball team said they still look forward to a rewarding season.
Head Coach Alycia Varytimidis said she looks forward to a promising season despite the loss.
"We're in a good place now," Varytimidis said.
Freshman Lindsey Ehlert had five defensive digs. She also had 11 kills on 20 attacks.
Darci Mika also led the team with 25 assists, as well as 27 digs. Mika also had three kills on five attacks.
Varytimidis said the team came back strong in the end, but it wasn't soon enough.
"We are doing a lot better than we have in the past," Varytimidis said.
This is the first year the team has had a full roster. Varytimidis said the team has become more competitive this season and will continue to do so.
"These kids will continue to grow as a team," Varytimidis said.
This year's team has just started working together, and Varytimidis is confident they will continually improve, not just this year, but throughout the next few years until they are one of the best teams in the conference.
ULM's support has given the team confidence as well.
"We want people to continue to support us. It helps us win," Varytimidis said.
She enjoys playing in the Brown Gymnasium, describing it as very intimate. Varytimidis said there was an average of 20 attendants per game last year.
There was standing room only, however, during this year's game against Northwestern State University. Varytimidis said such a large supporting crowd intimidates the opposing team.
The Lady Indians will work on improving their skills throughout the season, and their coach said she's already seen improvement.
Varytimidis also said the team has a great attitude and is willing to work hard.
With a 3-9 record, the Lady Indians goal is to compete in the conference tournament.
